Although I have been a Mac user for many years I have never really utilized my computer’s “Spotlight” function until recently. Spotlight is an easy way to find anything on your computer, including files, emails, contacts, etc., and it can be accessed by hitting the Command (apple) key and the space bar (hold down Command and then just type the space bar and release both), or by clicking on the magnifying glass in the top-right corner of your screen. Type in a name, something in a document or email that you wrote or received, and Spotlight will give you a list of things if found on your computer. While a quick search function on it’s own is a great time saver, Spotlight does more.
I have never fancied myself a “numbers person” and constantly find myself scrolling through my applications to open my calculator. While searching for a contact yesterday I discovered that Spotlight can do math! The next time you need to know what the sum of 347 and 298 just plug “347+289” into the search field.
Only other thing you should know is to use * for multiplication and / (forward slash) for division.
How great is that?
